FINALLY! The update I’ve been busting to share with you since I arrived at the farmstead. It’s time to share with you what’s been growing and thriving here in our garden at Ginger & Brown Farmstead. Having a full-fledged vegetable garden has been on my wish list for a very long time. We were very lucky to inherit a garden fully enclosed by netting already as the birds, rabbits, wallabies, you name it, live in abundance here. Let’s not forget the original mess we also inherited. *le sigh*. You can check out the ‘before’ photos in this post. Just revisiting that post has been a timely reminder for me to get out there this weekend and do a quick weed of the beds.
So what makes this garden so special?
For 2 years I was a vagabond. Without a place to call home. Prior to that, I lived in a small apartment smack-bang in the middle of the city. Container plants on the balcony formed my garden, my sanctuary… my connection with nature. This didn’t, however, allow me much in the way of space or freedom to experiment. While a LOT can be grown in a small space, I craved the feeling of digging my hands elbow deep into a humus rich garden bed, cultivating soil that would regenerate life over and over, and being out in the warm sunshine of an afternoon tending to the plants that would provide me sustenance.
And here I am. My dreams answered. With a garden to call my own. How blessed am I.
As Summer slowly transitions to Autumn, an unseasonably warm and dry past few weeks has seen to the greens thriving.
What are you harvesting and enjoying in abundance right now?
